5 Ways to Celebrate the Fourth of July This Year

The Fourth of July weekend is an exciting weekend of summer that involves family and friends coming together with yummy food, fun outdoor activities, and celebrating America's independence.

The Fourth of July may look a little different because of COVID-19, but there are still plenty of fun activities that you can do to celebrate while safely practicing social distancing.

We came up with 5 ways to celebrate the Fourth of July this year:

1. Revisit History Through a Virtual Tour

Learn a little more history this Independence Day! Take a virtual tour of some of the Nation's most impressive locations. Gather the family around the computer and take a vote on what tour might interest you.

This 4th, you can celebrate the holiday by diving deeper into the history of our country with virtual visits to NASA, the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, George Washington's Mount Vernon, and the Statue of Liberty.

What better time to learn about our country than on the Fourth of July!

2. Let the Kids Plan the Day

Have kids? Let them plan what you're going to do.

Set a budget, give them some guidance if they need it, and let them plan a fun Fourth of July for you at your home.

3. Watch Your Local Fireworks Show

Attending a local fireworks show is a fun tradition for many to celebrate the Fourth of July.

There will be a local fireworks show at Heritage Point Regional Park - 1275 Cross Plains Trail Dalton, GA 30721.

The fireworks show will start at 9:30 pm, so bring your camping chairs and enjoy the show with your quarantine crew!

4. Bake a Few Patriotic Desserts

You can't celebrate America's birthday without some red, white, and blue desserts.

After baking some of the best cupcakes, brownies, and Fourth of July cakes, the whole family can join in on the festive decorating — or even compete in a friendly bake-off.

5. Give Back to Your Community

This is a great opportunity to reach out to United Way of Northwest Georgia to find out about any needs their Community Partners may have.

Find a volunteer opportunity that's meaningful to you, your friends, and family and make this a memorable holiday because you did something for others!

Throughout the month of July, United Way of Northwest Georgia will be handing out books at Whitfield County’s #PowerLunch sites on Fridays (excluding July 3).

Come out and volunteer with us! Click here to read more about this volunteer opportunity.
