Spooky and Safe Halloween Activities

Even though things look different this year, this Halloween still has the potential to be extremely spooktacular!

This year, Halloween falls on a Saturday, AND there will even be a full moon (spooky!).

Just because we need to remain socially distanced this year doesn't mean Halloween is canceled, it just means we have to come up with spooky quarantine Halloween ideas.

We’ve compiled a list of the best ways to safely celebrate Halloween.

From carving pumpkins to having Halloween themed scavenger hunts, these ideas will help you have the best Halloween yet! Even if it’s from home.

So put on your costume, eat some candy, and get ready for a haunting Halloween house party!

Spooky and Safe Halloween Activities - CDC website

1) Carving/decorating pumpkins with members of your household

2) Carving/decorating pumpkins outside, at a safe distance, with neighbors or friends

3) Decorating your house, apartment, or living space

4) Create a stunning spread of spooky snacks

5) Doing a Halloween scavenger hunt where children are given lists of Halloween-themed things to look for while they walk outdoors from house to house admiring Halloween decorations at a distance

6) Having a virtual Halloween costume contest

7) Having a scary movie marathon

8) Having a scavenger hunt-style trick-or-treat search with your household members in or around your home rather than going house to house

9) Stage a family photoshoot with your spooky Halloween costumes on

10) Make a backyard bonfire - enjoy Halloween s'mores (you can even use chocolate graham crackers and Halloween candy)

If you are wanting to go out and trick-or-treat here are some helpful tips:

Trick-or-treat group is small.

Limit it to 3 or 4 kids at most, and choose those who you know have also been practicing social distancing.

Establish ground rules.

Ask your child to choose one piece of candy and stick with it. Also, continue to practice social distancing even outside.

Don't share props, toys, or candy bags.

Keep the costumes props from being passed around if you can. Ask each of your children to hold onto their own candy bags.

Bring hand sanitizer, and practice not touching your face.

It's a good idea to take a break, do check-in and give kids some hand sanitizer to clean their hands between multiple homes
