Volunteer Projects & Agency Education Events

  • YLS Road Trip: Helped elderly in our community by delivering hot plates of food at Meals on Wheels, a United Way program!
  • Hoops & Scoops - played basketball at the Boys & Girls Club, a United Way agency
  • Volunteered to make tie dye shirts at the Dalton Community Center
  • Shared a Book about volunteerism with local elementary school students
  • LIVE UNITED impact photography show by Kay-Lynne Davies- featuring photographs of United Way agencies and their clients.
  • Volunteered to at Whitfield- Dalton Daycare a United Way agency, to help with creative movement, assist in the cooking class, and be classroom readers
  • Agency Fact Find- Scavenger Hunt- at United Way Partner Agencies
  • Volunteered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, a United Way agency - lunch and games with children at City Park Elementary on the waiting list for a mentor
  • Hands on Georgia Week Volunteer Projects- Painting maps of the USA on school playgrounds
  • Volunteer for Make a Difference Day - Painted Gazebo and a 4-square at Dalton Green
  • Led holidays games and activities for Boys & Girls Club for 4 days during Christmas break
  • Cooked lunch for residents of Carter Hope Center, a United Way agency
  • Volunteered for crafts and games at Cross Plains Community Partner, a United Way agency.
  • Attended an art show at the Creative Arts Guild featuring artists from Cross Plains, which serves adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Hands on Georgia Week: Painted the Hallway at Dawnville Elementary School
  • Make a Difference Day- Built a swing set for Family Promise- Homeless Day Center
  • Lead Science Experiments with 3rd Grade Students at Roan Street School
  • "The Mountains Are My Backyard": Where to: Hike, Bike, Camp & Go Creekin' in Northwest Georgia.
  • Volunteer to paint a Map of the USA on the Playground at Dug Gap Elementary School
  • Hoops and Scoops -Meet at Bagley Middle School to play basketball and have ice-cream with the children at the Boys & Girls Club.
  • Donated games and packed Buddy Boxes at Big Brother/Big Sisters.
  • Volunteered to help with hula hoop stations at the Boys & Girls Club annual "Day for Kids" event in Downtown Dalton (2 years)
  • Volunteered at the National Manufacturing Summit and heard T. Boone Pickens speak
  • Make a Difference Day – Painted the Lobby @ The Family Crisis Center
  • Holiday Hoopla - festive afternoon of volunteering. Volunteers helped with Holiday Arts & Crafts and played basketball and served ice cream as a part of Hoops & Scoops.
  • Make a Difference Day - Helped build a rock climbing wall at the Boys and Girls Club
  • Volunteer Project: Grab your Hat and Read with the Cat (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018)
  • Make a Difference Day - Brookwood Courtyard and Garden (2013)
  • Make a Difference Day - Built a Greenhouse at Blue Ridge Elementary School (2014)

  • Stone Soup Project at Salvation Army - Served soup and sandwiches. Donated 25 copies of the book Stone Soup and led Valentine's crafts. Sponsored by Textile Rubber & Chemical Company. (2016)

Networking Events

  • Planet of the Grapes in December (’07-‘09) - collected blankets for families without heat
  • Iron Gate Pizzeria where attendees donated books to the Adopt-a-Class reader program
  • Champagne & Chocolate at Chelsea's on Thornton, raised funds for YLS volunteer projects
  • Mix and Mingle in the Los Reyes patio
  • YLS members were able to purchase discount tickets to the Wine Festival by the Downtown Dalton Development Authority
  • Spooky Night Out: devilish drinks at The Planet, ghost tour of Dalton, murder mystery at Dalton Little Theatre
  • Spring Fling with Networking Event with Chamber Emerging Leaders Classes & Young Leaders Society
  • Lunch and Learn: Tour a local tortilla & ice cream factory, and enjoy yummy authentic Mexican cuisine including lunch with the owner
  • The Young Leaders hosted a Sunday Chicken Lunch fundraiser at the Oakwood and raised over $2,500.
