A Board Chairman’s Reflection: Mike Sanderson

I was absolutely humbled to be given the opportunity to serve as United Way of Northwest Georgia’s Board Chair for 2023. Not being from Dalton and considering those who have served in this role before me, I am truly honored to have been able to serve my community, my home, with such a great organization as United Way. With immense pride and gratitude, I share some insights into the impactful work we have accomplished in the past year.

Our commitment to creating positive change and fostering a United community has driven every decision and initiative. Together, we have tackled complex issues, advocated for those in need, and strived to create a thriving community. Resilience and unity have been instrumental in overcoming challenges and turning obstacles into opportunities for growth.

One of the cornerstones of our success has been the unwavering support from our community. Your trust and engagement fuel our passion for service and inspire us to reach higher. Witnessing Kevin Wright's passion and dedication as the 2023 Campaign Chair and his willingness to commit his valuable time and energy to serving his community was simply awesome. Kevin and I could only have made this past year successful with YOU, the community. I'm truly excited that Karen Townsend and her daughter, Bradley Austin, have accepted the 2024 Campaign Co-Chair position. As a "Community Volunteer," finding the time and energy to dedicate to what can be an incredibly challenging role is a true testament to the incredible people they both are!

Our collective achievements are a testament to the Power of Community and collaboration. It's been so exciting to see the growing success of the annual CEO Trike Race! It's such a fun community-wide event. I am not sure that I remember so many people working so hard together to make this event such a success year after year! The CEO Trike Race was extra special this year because we celebrated United Way President, Amanda Burt's 20 years of service! It was an honor and pleasure to work alongside Amanda. Her professionalism, leadership, expertise, and commitment to our community are inspiring and something we should all strive for. The Power of our Community has allowed United Way to make meaningful strides in education, health, and financial stability for individuals and families across Whitfield and Murray counties. Whether through volunteering, donations, or advocacy, your involvement directly impacts the lives United Way touches and the community we uplift.

Looking ahead, the challenges we face may be daunting, but our resolve is stronger than ever. I know that with Julian Dossche taking my place as the 2024 Board Chairman, his creativity, leadership, constant optimism, and entrepreneurial spirit will bring United Way of Northwest Georgia to all-new heights! We will continue to remain steadfast in our commitment to building a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We invite you to join us on this journey as we continue to adapt and grow. Your involvement and support are crucial in shaping a future where we can make a greater impact together.

In closing, I sincerely thank the Board of Directors, the dedicated United Way staff, and the entire community for your tireless efforts and support. Together, when we are United, we can achieve lasting change and create a brighter, more hopeful future for all.
