Make a Difference Day 2020 Recap

For the past twenty years, United Way of Northwest Georgia has celebrated Make a Difference Day on the fourth Friday and Saturday in October. This year looked a little different from years past due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but United Way is here serving our community. Brown Industries and Phenix Flooring were the co-sponsors for this year’s Make a Difference Day, and we had a total of six volunteer projects.

Meet Chuck and Jody McClurg, our 2020 Campaign Co-Chairs

It’s hard to believe that we are already gearing up for the 2020 United Way campaign! Pacesetter campaigns are running, and results are being tallied. Looking back, we have had some pretty amazing things happen over the last year. Even during a global pandemic, the community and its leadership have stepped up and are making United Way a priority – because many of their employees count on United Way services.

United Way of Northwest Georgia’s Update on COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund Distribution Round One

A Message from Joe Young, United Way Board Chair, and Amanda Burt, President

Although we aren’t meeting in person now, and business as usual is anything but usual, a lot is happening at United Way and with our community partners on the front lines of the Covid-19 crisis.

We want to share some quick updates and actions United Way has taken.

Annual Celebration and Volunteer Awards

Campaign Chair, Bob Hardaway, is an avid Clemson Tiger football fan and when it came to motivating his campaign cabinet, this quote from Clemson Football Head Coach Dabo Swinney perfectly encompassed how he felt:

“To be an overachiever you have to be an over-believer.” This quote set the stage for an incredible year of over-believing in the impact that United Way can have on Building Better Futures in our community.

United Way Meets Record-Breaking Goal

Bob Hardaway led the charge in 2019 as the United Way Campaign Chair. Seeing the great need in our community, he volunteered to chair the campaign. Bob has been an avid supporter of United Way for over 20 years.

He has always given generously of both his financial resources and of his time. Chairing the campaign can be a challenge, but Bob Hardaway rose to the occasion.

National Mentoring Month Celebration

January marks the 19th annual National Mentoring Month, a campaign aimed at expanding quality mentoring opportunities to connect more of our community’s young people with caring adults.

United Way of Northwest Georgia’s Young Leaders Society has established a mentoring partnership with United Way community partner Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Georgia Mountains called Mentors United.
