Happy Mother's Day

To the women who lead, give, serve, and inspire: thank you.

May always invites us to pause and reflect on the people who shape us, and often, those people are women. From mothers and grandmothers to teachers, mentors, and friends, women play a powerful role in guiding, encouraging, and strengthening the communities we call home.

At United Way of Northwest Georgia, we see that impact every day. Women are not only caregivers and supporters—they are leaders, changemakers, and advocates who step up and create opportunities for others to thrive.

That spirit was on full display at our fourth annual Power of the Purse event on April 29 at Walnut Hill Farm. With sunshine overhead and more than 340 women gathered together, the day was filled with meaningful conversations, genuine connections, and a shared commitment to making a difference. Because of the generosity of our sponsors, donors, and attendees, we raised critical funds to support United Way’s Community Partners and programs that help individuals and families build stronger, more stable futures.

One of the most memorable moments of the day came from our keynote speaker, Ellen Skrmetti. Through humor, honesty, and a message that resonated across generations, Ellen reminded us that dreams don’t have deadlines. Her words encouraged each of us to let go of self-doubt, embrace where we are, and continue pursuing the dreams placed in our hearts.

It was a message that felt especially fitting not just for the women in the room, but for the work ahead of us as a community. Because when women are supported and empowered, they don’t just succeed individually, they lift entire families and neighborhoods with them.

As we move through May, we’re reminded that appreciation isn’t limited to a single day or week. It shows up in how we invest in one another, how we create opportunities for future generations, and how we continue building a community where everyone has the chance to succeed.

At United Way, that commitment remains at the center of everything we do. Through initiatives like the Women’s Leadership Council and our partnerships across Whitfield and Murray counties, we are focused on creating lasting change, together.

To the women who lead, give, serve, and inspire: thank you. Your impact is seen, felt, and deeply valued. We hope this month brings you moments of rest, recognition, and celebration—you’ve earned it.
