At United Way of Northwest Georgia, we believe some of the most important lessons happen beyond the classroom—through leadership, service, and meaningful community involvement.

That is why we are excited to welcome the newest members of our Youth United Council and Youth United Ambassadors programs. This year, 68 student leaders from high schools across Whitfield and Murray counties have committed to investing in their communities while developing the leadership skills that will shape their futures. These students will spend the next year learning what it means to lead with purpose through service, collaboration, and civic engagement.

Youth United is more than a volunteer program. It is a leadership development initiative that equips students with the skills, experiences, and relationships they need to become tomorrow's business leaders, nonprofit professionals, educators, and engaged citizens. Throughout the year, participants will strengthen their communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills while learning about the challenges and opportunities facing our community.

Our Youth United Council members, high school juniors, will participate in monthly leadership modules, volunteer service projects, and hands-on learning experiences designed to help them grow personally and professionally. Our Youth United Ambassadors, high school seniors, will take that leadership one step further by mentoring younger students, serving at community events, and representing United Way throughout our annual campaign.

One of the most rewarding parts of this program is watching students discover their confidence and realize the difference they can make. They leave with much more than volunteer hours—they gain leadership experience, lifelong friendships, and a deeper understanding of what it means to invest in the place they call home.

The future of Northwest Georgia depends on young people who are prepared to lead with compassion, integrity, and a heart for service. By investing in students today, we are building stronger businesses, stronger nonprofits, and stronger communities for years to come.

As another school year begins, I am grateful to the schools, parents, community partners, and volunteers who make Youth United possible. Most importantly, I am inspired by the students who have chosen to dedicate their time and talents to serving others. Their commitment reminds us that leadership has no age requirement—and that the future of our community is in very good hands.
