Holiday Volunteer Opportunities

What if I told you there was something you could do this holiday season that would make you feel like you had more hours in the day, while also increasing self-confidence, improving physical health, and creating long-lasting memories that you treasure forever?

It sounds like something that’s too good to be true, but rest assured it’s very possible!

When you volunteer—carving out even a small amount of time in your day to help someone else—you will experience feelings of efficiency and competence. These feelings will give you the sense that you could do quite a bit with your limited time.

In other words, when you give time, you feel like you have more time.

Looking for places to volunteer this Holiday Season?

Look no further we have 3 wonderful opportunities for you to get involved in our community this holiday season!

1. The Salvation Army - Sharing is Caring

Every year The Salvation Army hosts their Christmas event “Sharing is Caring” at the North Georgia Fairgrounds.

Sharing is Caring is a collaborative effort to help provide Christmas to children in our community. Parents attend 3 family engagement classes to receive 3 certificates that are collected at the Salvation Army.

In exchange, the parents are given a time to come shop at the Christmas Store on December 21, 2019 at the North GA Fairgrounds and select 3 new gifts per child. Each child also receives a new outfit.

Volunteers will take the donated toys and sort them along with distributing the toys based on the age of the child that will receive the toy.

All volunteers must be 18 years old or older and are needed for Saturday, December 21, 2019

2. Habitat for Humanity Build Projects

Help Habitat for Humanity with house #57. You could help lay flooring and paint trim. If you are able to help volunteer to do this, it would help catch this house up to get the family in by Christmas.

Habitat for Humanity also has 6 repair projects on their list that they need to have finished by the end of the year to help get families in these homes before Winter.

By volunteering to help complete these build projects YOU will be helping these families have a home for the Holidays.

There's an elderly woman going through chemo with adult children needing back deck repaired and front porch.

"I love my home and try to maintain it, even while battling cancer. It's our family gathering place."

Her family is one of at least 6 families that are in immediate need of repairs before the winter season.

3. Housing Resource Fair

The purpose of the Housing Resource Fair is to help homeless individuals and families by offering services that meet multiple needs — all under the same roof.

The Housing Resource Fair event provides on-site services for homeless people and those who are at risk for becoming homeless, such
as medical exams and screenings, haircuts, legal advice, photo I.D.’s, access to healthy food, and more.

Participants are paired with a volunteer guide, who helps them navigate the various services that are available at the event.

Volunteers are needed on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 and can sign up for time slots between 2:00-6:00pm.
